Pump up air rifle every time. Benjamin pump or Sheridan Blue Streak. I haven't owned one in a few years, but have owned several of the gas ones. Easier to use, but no control of power.

Airguns have really come a long way in the last 10yrs. I personally have a Beeman single under lever thingying action that is spring/piston air powered and has very good velocity and awesome accuracy. It's made in Germany and the barrel has 16 grooves in the rifling, pretty amazing since the caliber is .177. My favorites though are are pre-charged pneumatics. They are made by Airforce Arms in Texas and the barrels are imported Lothar Walther. Premium quality stuff here. The Airforce Condor I shoot has a 24" barrel and projects a 25gr .22 bullet at 1300 fps. I can get about 30-40 shots at this speed, ideally though one can obtain best accuracy with the power wheel dialed down to about 800-850fps with a total of about 150 shots. The power cell is an air tank that doubles as the butt stock. It's 490cc and is filled with 3k psi from a scuba tank.
